So 2020 was a complete sh!tfest. Almost all theatrical movies were rescheduled till 2021 or 2022.
Assuming the vaccine thing works…Here is the current schedule for some of 2021’s most promising movies!
Morbius (March 2021)
Morbius is a Spider-man universe anti-hero story like the movie Venom (2018), the surprise hit that made $856 million worldwide on a $100 million budget.
Born with a rare blood disease Morbius experiments on himself causing him to turn into a living vampire.

Good news: It’s directed by Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow (2014) and The Bourne Identity (2002)) and it stars Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley.
Bad news: It was set to be released two years ago but test audiences hated it. They did major rewrites and reshoots so we’ll see.

Daniel Craig’s last James Bond movie? Rami Malek as the villain.
Mortal Kombat (April 2021)
A reboot of the fighting video game movies.
Last Night in Soho (April 2021)
Directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) Last Night in Soho is a psychological horror film. Described as: “A young girl, passionate about fashion design, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it seems, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences.”
Starring: Anya Taylor-Joy, Matt Smith, Terence Stamp, and the final screen appearance of the late Diana Rigg.
A Quiet Place Part II (April 2021)
John Krasinski directing and Emily Blunt return.
In May the Summer block-buster movies start.
Black Widow (May 2021)
Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow solo movie finally arrives. I am looking forward to finally seeing this one.
F9 (May 2021)
The Fast and Furious franchise’s latest installment. Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, with Helen Mirren taking over for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Godzilla vs. Kong (May 2021)
Stars Alexander Skarsgard and Millie Bobby Brown. Not sure which one is playing Godzilla.
Free Guy (May 2021)
Ryan Reynolds as a video game NPC; a non-player character that mostly stands in the back-ground. He realizes what he is and tries to become the game’s hero.
Infinite (May 28, 2021)
This sci-fi film stars Mark Wahlberg as a man with past lives. With Dylan O’Brien.
Spiral (May 2021)
The horror series Saw gets a new direction. Starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (June 2021)

Marvel’s phase 4 super hero martial arts starring Simu Liu as Shang-Chi. This will be Marvels first Asian leading character. The movie was filming in San Francisco just this summer. With Michelle Yeoh and Awkwafina.
The Tomorrow War (July 23, 2021)
Hoping for a summer blockbuster, this sci-fi action film stars Chris Pratt as a soldier taken to fight in the future in the world’s last stand against an alien invasion. This big-budget film is directed by Chris McKay (The Lego Movie)
Uncharted (July 2021)
A prequel to the video games stars Tom Holland as a young Drake who meets Mark Wahlberg’s Sully.
The Forever Purge (July 2021)
The Purge franchise’s last film? Doubt it. Especially if it’s good.
Jungle Cruise (July 2021)
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt. Based on the Disneyland ride.
The Suicide Squad (August 2021)
I am looking forward to James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sorta-sequel. Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena and Sylvester Stallone.
This will also stream on HBO Max at the same time it is in theaters.
Don’t Breathe 2 (August 2021)
Stephen Lang returns.
Candyman (August 2021)
Tony Todd returns. Jordan Peele produced this revival so it could be awesome.
Death on the Nile (September 2021)
Starring Wonder Women 1984’s Gal Gadot
Dune Part I (October 2021)
Another remake of the classic Sci-fi novel. Timothée Chalamet stars as the son of a noble family banished to a dangerous world that is the single source of the most valuable commodity in the galaxy, spice.
I think this could be great, but after Dune (1984) and the Dune TV miniseries (2000) are people really willing to pay to see the first half of this story in theaters? This will stream on HBO Max at the same time, probably to a much larger audience.
Also starring Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista, and Javier Bardem.
Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins (October 2021)
This G.I. Joe sequel stars Henry Golding ( from Crazy Rich Asians (2018) and Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen (2019))

A sequel to Halloween (2018). Jamie Lee Curtis returns.
The Last Duel (October 2021)
Director Ridley Scott brings us “King Charles VI declares that Knight Jean de Carrouges settle his dispute with his squire by challenging him to a duel.” We were really hoping for aliens and spaceships, but it increasing seems unlikely. Ridley Scott and Matt Damon pair for the first time since the amazing The Martian (2015).
Eternals (November 2021)
The story of the Eternals, “ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, the Deviants.”
Starring Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden & Kit Harington (Game of Thrones’ Robb Stark and John Snow)
Mission: Impossible 7 (November 2021)
Seventh film for Tom Cruise’s long-running Mission: Impossible series. Co-starring Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3 (November 2021)
Mads Mikkelsen replaces Johnny Depp. Directed by David Yates from the first two films.
Spider-Man 3 (December 2021)
Sony and Marvel appear to be creating a Spider-multiverse and setting up a Sinister Six movie.
Will this movie suffer a too crowded story like the last Spider-Man 3 (2007)? It appears this story will set-up Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022).
Tom Holland, Zendaya and Benedict Cumberbatch star with Jon Watts returning as director.

The Matrix 4 (December 2021)
Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss return in the 4th installment of the long long ago Matrix trilogy. Lana Wachowski directing.
Originally set for release on May 21, 2021, this would have premiered the same weekend as Keanu Reeves’ John Wick: Chapter 4. We were looking forward to the Battle of the Keanus, but alas… This will be another Warner Bros film that will be streamed on HBO Max at the same time it is in theaters. Set to release on 2021 Christmas week.
And of course we won’t be seeing The Batman, John Wick: Chapter 4 and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness till 2022. Stupid Covid.
